Bar Replay: Practice Without Hindsight
The reason your chart reading looks brilliant on last week's candles is that you can see what came next. Bar Replay takes that away. It rewinds the chart, hides everything to the right of a bar you pick, and lets you decide with exactly what a trader had in that moment: nothing about the future.
Getting into replay
Find the Replay button in the top toolbar (the little rewind icon next to the timeframe). Click it, then click any bar on the chart to set your start. The right side of the chart greys out. Now press play to run in real time, or step forward one bar at a time with the step button. On BTCUSD daily, one press equals one day; on a 5-minute ES chart, one press is five minutes.
Feel the edge, not one lucky trade
One replay tells you nothing. The point is repetition. Pick a single setup, say a pullback to the 20 EMA after a break of structure, and run it across 30 to 50 historical instances. Log each one: did it work, where was the stop, how far did it run. After 40 you stop guessing whether the pattern has an edge and start feeling it. This is also where candlestick patterns earn or lose their reputation under honest conditions.
Where it lies to you
- On some intraday data the replay is coarse: it steps bar to bar, so intrabar sequence is guesswork.
- You still watch the current bar form, which real time never lets you preview so cleanly.
